Straw hat door hangers are very popular, I’ve been making them for a few years. They’re super easy to make and look great on an entry door.

I can help you to make your own straw hat door wreath with just a few supplies and this easy step-by-step tutorial.

THIS IS SUCH A GREAT PROJECT:

This project is fun because it’s elegant, very pretty and really easy to make. You can be very creative as you follow along, get creative and put your own spin on things. I decided to use a spring wood sign, but you can just write on the hat, embroider the rim or just leave it blank.

What flowers are you going to use? What flower colors? I am so excited you decided to make one of your own.

HERE ARE THE SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Sun Hat (Dollar Tree)
  • Pink Wildflowers (Michaels) Or your choice of colors
  • Wire to hold flowers in place
  • Wire Cutters to cut flowers apart
  • Wooden Sign ( I used hello spring from Michaels)
  • Ribbon (Michaels) I used Pink Plaid and white check-patterned ribbons.
  • Hot Glue and Glue Gun

TUTORIAL: HOW TO MAKE THE STRAW HAT WREATH

Start by removing the sales tag and ribbon from the sun hat.

  1. Wrap a strip of ribbon around the head of the hat, hot gluing it in place, then tie it off with an optional knot.
  2. Add an additional bow using 3 lengths of the pink ribbon and 2 lengths of white check ribbon, cut at a 45-degree angle. Stack the pieces and tie them off in the middle with another piece of pink ribbon folded into thirds and hot glued. Secure the bow over the knot with hot glue. Or if you are handy at bow making you can make it the size you want.
  3. Snip the wildflowers from their base, leaving a bit of the stem.
  4. Apply hot glue to the back of the leaves and press it onto the hat. Choose a space where the stem can go through a hole in the hat, you can secure with wire..
  5. Repeat this process until about a third to a half of the hat is covered in flowers.

Isn’t this cute? I love how easy it is to make, especially for anyone just beginning to craft!
